Development blog / Re: Package Manager, how we won't miss thee
« on June 25th, 2011, 06:27 AM »
My thoughts here, and not pushing anything I'm just brainstorming a little so if you've already discarded this or don't wanna talk about it anymore you can tell me to shut up already.  :)

If its built to check whatever repository the forum owner has pointed it to, then it can check all repositories for version numbers and update from anywhere that has an approved package in that repository.  Really, most people with other repositories won't be mirroring you, they'll be doing their own thing for their own projects both paid and free that they want control over.  If they want a paid option then they can figure out access to paid repositories or you can use group level access where paid members go into a group with access to paid repositories or whatever.

Like I said though, I'll shut up if you don't want to think about this any more.  I was just enjoying thinking out something that didn't involve a diaper.  :)

Would it be considered a walled garden if you went Cydia style?  This would allow Wedge forums to check your repository for updates as well as mine if I were to build one and then let the community know I had a repository that was automagically compatible with Wedge and all they had to do was point their forum at my repository.

Not that I have those skills but for others.

Thanks guys.  We are establishing some routines and getting settled nicely thanks to my sister in law who came in for a couple days and was a miracle worker on restoring sanity.  :)

YAY!

This is the first and only site with people I haven't met face to face where I am posting this.  I like the community here and so even though I've never met any of you in person I wanted to share in the birth of my daughter, Violet.   :yahoo:

Is there a reason they might not have updated?  Is 5.3 a major memory upgrade as well or some other reason to give it a pass like most of us did on Vista?

Those kind of woes scare me.  At work we have a document management system, that about only 75% of the people use.  I've been there 7 months and seen 4 hard drives crash, all of them in the 25% of people saving to the desktop.  One of them so completely I couldn't get anything back for her.  The other 3 I was able to use an external enclosure to get everything back.

At home I use an external drive and backup my wife and I's data once in a while.  Wedding pictures for example are in half a dozen places.  :)

I always thought the cynical bastard part was entertaining enough to keep me going over there even though I didn't need anything.  There were a couple times I thought "squirrel who lost his nut" but mostly just entertaining.  :)

I don't know of any off the top of my head so the head hunters are likely the way to go.  I got my job through Eagle but I'm in tech support, I don't know if they hunt web devs for sure but I think they do.

Whatever.  Them getting it out means that whenever Wedge is ready, it can have a release without anymore waiting.  :)

Off-topic / Inventory App
« on May 26th, 2011, 06:50 PM »
I know it has nothing to do with Wedge but I value the opinions I hear here so I thought I would ask.

Does anyone know of a good inventory app that they would recommend?  Something I could install online the way we install SMF and soon to be Wedge and then assign user rights and privileges for adding and subtracting from inventory vs just being able to do a lookup etc?

I could Google it but then I wouldn't have opinions I'm more likely to trust.

Thanks.
