Off-topic / Re: Kung Fu Panda 2 (Possible Spoilers)

I've got 2 kids, and they both really enjoyed the first Kung Fu Panda (as did my wife and I), so I'll probably buy Kung Fu Panda 2 when it comes out on Blu Ray.

Any chance there will be a way to import from the old zCommunity mod?

I can see the appeal of this for some sites, honestly though this strikes me as being more an add-on rather than a core feature.
Makes sense to me.

Unfortunately, I am woefully ignorant of the way the WYSIWYG editor works, and my knowledge of PHP is elementary at best, so I'd have no idea where to even begin coding such a thing.  Hopefully some kind soul will see my request and help a brother out, once Wedge is available of course.

Oh... I'm afraid this would open the doors to Designers' Hell. You don't want your own slice of MySpace, do you?

You should set the font size to a larger one for everyone, instead.
Well, what I'm saying is some people like to post everything in blue font.  Some people prefer their posts to be in purple.  Some people like serif fonts, others prefer sans-serif.  I personally just prefer using whatever the default font is and be happy about it.  :P  However, many of my users simply change all of their posts manually to use the font and color of their choice before posting.

So I just thought it might be nice for them to be able to set that, since they're going to do it anyway.  But I understand your point as well.

Off-topic / Request Feature: Default font and color for posts
« on May 9th, 2011, 04:22 PM »
OK, so here is my humbly presented, meek-mannered feature request...

My forum users have long been requesting the ability to set a default font and color for their posts.  Basically, a setting in their user profile that allows them to set the font and color for everything they post on the forum.  Any chance that something like that might make it into Wedge?

Yep.

The funny thing is, this guy admittedly knows *nothing* about computers, and I am well recognized by many in our very small town as THE guy to fix your computer when it breaks.  Even our IT department here where I work refers all of our employee's personal home computer problems to me!  Yet people will still choose to waste their money, even though I warn them otherwise because, "it must be better because it costs money!"  Simply amazing.

It's just the mentality that free things can't be quality, and no matter how much you try to change it, it seems engrained in people.

Yesterday, I had a repeat client bring me their computer that their teenage son had (again) gotten infected with numerous viruses.  The last time I worked on it, I suggested Avast free, because that's what I've used for years, and it's always done its job well while not having a large memory footprint and pretty much staying out of the way.  I tell my clients, most of whom are unaware that there is free Antivirus software available, that the free stuff is every bit as good as the pay stuff, and they always look at me weird.

However, this client told me that he wanted me to remove Avast so that he could install Norton to stop these infections from happening.  His perception is because Norton costs money it will do a better job.  I tried to explain that the problem was not his antivirus software, but his teenage son's downloading habits, but I was unsuccessful in convincing him.  So, I removed Avast for him and he's going to install Norton when I give it back to him.

I wonder what will happen after he's paid $70+ for Norton's software and has to bring the PC to me again in the next 6 months with the same problem...

On a completely unrelated note, maybe you remember me...  I was the first to report the incompatibility in the WYSIWYG Quick Reply mod with AEVA (which of course you quickly addressed).

Can't you find another name though? Our lead visionary is called Pete too :P
Yeah, I know.  Hence the

Sorry.  I'm not very creative when it comes to screen names, and I've been "Pete" for almost 34 years now, so I'm kind of attached to it.   :P

I guess I should introduce myself too....

My name really is Pete.  Really.

I'm a long time SMF user and a paid AeMe user, which is how I found out about Wedge.  Once I saw mod development and discussion for SMF dying down, I knew something must have happened, and I set out to figure out what was going on. I've read the sorry, sordid tale, from Jeff Lewis' blog post all the way down, and I was discouraged and disheartened.  Then when I saw on Noisen the "Fork You" thread, I was intrigued, and so here I am.

I know just enough programming to be dangerous, but I won't ask stupid questions.  I'll probably mostly just sit in the background and read with anticipation the day that I will once again be able to use an innovative community software.

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and say "Thank You" for breathing new life into a stagnant forum software.
