Off-topic / Re: Opinion on my new site format? Trying keep it simple...
« on December 19th, 2013, 09:15 PM »
So Wedge should be released very soon. Jan/Feb 2014 (Nao's timeshift :niark:).
And you can believe me: it's way more stable, feature complete and secure than SMF :)

There are some things under the hood that should have to be done first. But nothing that can stop you from taking Wedge to running your live site.
It's worth to wait. If not, I'll buy you a beer.  :yahoo:

So... you should stay at Wedge.
Because... :)
  • It's possible to post to gallery and start a topic from there
  • It's possible to change the layout of your board (e.g. Article/Blog/Forum)
  • AeMe Wedge update is easy. You don't have to change a single line of code. (No more hassle with custom themes)
  • There is no other forum that will be feature complete as Wedge will be (it's a CMS where C stands for Community)
There are ways more arguments to use Wedge. Just look a bit around. If there's something that's missing, simply ask.

The features of Facebook has dictated what people expect these days... unfortunately.
Yes it's true. Sadly.
But I think we can make it better. Wedge has some great advantages over Facebook.
There are more features to come (e.g. streaming profiles). So stay tuned.
@Nao:
What do you think about not to drop the entire attachment system, but give the user a possibility (dropdown box) to upload this attachment as Item in AeMe while posting?

Vote is self explaining :)

I don't believe that the public release will be underwhelming for anyone.

The problem these days: some are on holiday vacation and others don't know the way you're going with Wedge.

There are so many unfinished things. Streaming (following) and privacy for example. It's very difficult to contribute anything to Wedge if so many things are in change these days.

I believe the release of a public version will push Wedge back to life.
The reason for that is very clear: It's an really powerfull project and there's no other project with the same features like Wedge. But at this time no one has a clue of what's going on here.

So it would be really nice to have something like a roadmap for Wedge. If not then a short snippet of your ToDo list. :)

BTW: What did you think aout getting rid of the "Share this topic" stuff and transform it into a Plugin?
The request has to do with some weired legal stuff here in Germany. You can get punished by law if someone (e.g. the recipient) complains about getting notifications by you (spamming).

Will test it tomorrow when I'm home.
Will test different solutions.

Deutschland is taken? OMG  :niark:

Like I said. I'm fine with renaming it :)

Update from wedge's original is through BB direct.
Update and Commits through Tortoise.
Perhaps is an idea to have an empty branch. Seems to work. But we'll see after my next commit.

What a switch to the net point :)
I'm OK with changing this to German. But Austrian users speaking native german? :)
That's what I mean with it's the same like US and GB. Therefor the naming is correct. :) But I will change it and we will naming AT and CH otherwise. It's OK for me.

Also, is there a reason you named your German version 'Deutsch (DE)'...? Why not just 'Deutsch'?
English (US) is only there because British people certainly have a case when it comes to British English being the 'proper one' and US English a derivative (lol). But I've settled on English (UK) because there are more Americans, and non-Americans non-British are probably more used to the US grammar, too, so it needed to be done. But German... It's only spoken *widely* in Germany, right..? So it doesn't need the DE, I'd say.
Yes. Because mainly for the same reasons. We have DE_AT (Austria), DE_CH (Swiss). DE_DE means pure german :)

Done, but it also means the box is larger for all languages, and may wrap to the next line when replying to a thought, even if the thought isn't too long... :-/
Thank you. Looks better now!  8-)
Don't see it as a problem. Do you?

Did you check the $txt['charts'] array, BTW..? Because I *did* make it all up from your original strings, and the addition of 'Alles' and 'Ausses' or something, which I have no idea if they're even grammatically correct...
It's up to date now.

Translation for new stats is comitted :)
By the way... could you please make the thoughts area "post field" on home a bit larger. Linebreaks (when using german language) are messing up the look&feel.

So... It's all done, I think. There are probably tons of things to improve, but it all works right now, and I'm not touching it anymore until I'm committing that.

I'll need opinions on the final result, please! Can't keep talking to myself... :P

I think it could use a 'lifetime' stats range, giving out results in quarterly groups, or something. Apart from that, I'm all good...
Think it looks really sexy. Nice work!
But what about the Page Hits? Bug or not activated on Wedge?
It always shows 0.

Sounds cool and I'm a friend of a clean Admin-Center. :)

But I'm also with Sara, because this overhaul will postpone everything again a bit.
But...
There's so much done in the meantime and it's half the way done :)
So go for it.

It's very complicated to contribute something at this stage....

YouI know I'll like General Settings :)
So for the new look & feel i think that the new Admin-Center should look like this:

General Settings:
All settings that are important to adminstrate the forum. This includes Maintenance, Caching, Timezone, Prettyurl's, Plugins, Themes/Skins, Search Engine-Tracking, News, Likes, Languages, Embedding and Plugins.

Forum:
All related stuff (leave it untouched instead of Antispam, Attachments, Avatars and Embedding).

Media:
Leave as it is. Plus Avatars and Attachments

Permssions:
Including Members, Registration, Infractions, Bans, Antispam, Permissions and Member Options

Server:
Only Server related things as DB, Load Balancing, Proxy Settings and Sessions.
