The Pub / Re: Minimum PHP version?
« on December 22nd, 2013, 08:47 AM »
I think the minimum version should be whatever makes the best software. It seems to me there are a lot of benefits to be gained at that 5.3 threshold without the loss of too many possible hosts.

Although it should be noted that I'll run whatever version is necessary to run Wedge. Most VPS servers can easily be upgraded with a simple ticket. So really only shared hosts are at risk in this equation I think.

Ok that's cool. Probably not necessary, but definitely cool.

First, purely from an aesthetics point of view it is sexy beautiful. Charts just kind of do it for me. So you nailed it there.

From usefulness/coolness point of view I like it. I don't really think you need to include lifetime stats. The decade stats effectively accomplishes that (at least for the next 10 years I suppose :eheh:)

One stat I'd be interested in seeing is Topic Views Overall. Not sure how easy that would be, but I'd be willing to bet the decline in activity at Wedge.org is a lot less in that statistic. I have a feeling there are a lot of people out there following Wedge who like me don't feel like they have the knowledge to contribute a lot, but come here everyday and multiple times a day to see what's going on hoping for that post they feel they can finally contribute something useful.

So yeah, the stats rock

The Pub / Re: Infinite Scroll
« on September 29th, 2013, 12:45 PM »
I really like the idea of infinite scrolling, but it's not IMHO fantastic enough to spend this kind of time on it. I think if a simple redirect to the next page is doable with no issues then I'm content with this middle ground solution.

I can't wait to get my hands on a public version of Wedge, but I also want it the best it can be.  I have a lot of communities I want to build on Wedge. So you guys taking some time on the front end to make it as solid and stable as possible will save us all headaches later on. So take your time and do what you gotta do.

I suppose what I could do would be to have it add one for the default forum language by default, then let admins add them on demand after that. As I said on my thoughts lately, doing i18n stuff is *hard* :P
I guess it comes down to what is easiest for the largest number of people, but still manageable for the rest. The vast majority of installations are only going to have a single language. Next largest group of installations is likely two languages. The number of installations with 20 languages is likely crazy small and maybe non-existent.

So using that logic it is maybe ok to leave it the way it is.

I'd be a terrible lawyer. I just talked myself out of my own argument :D

(I'm sort of making this up as I go along. Prior to 31 March, the infractions system existed totally as a variable set of ideas in my head!)
Keep up the good work. I love seeing the progress every day. I can't comment on too much of it, because honestly a lot of it goes over my head. Still, seeing the progress it encouraging.

Wow! This is really coming together nicely. Really digging the UI aspect. Seems to flow really well.

Quick question. What if you had 20 different languages? It would just add another box for each language? That might not be so nice. Can't really imagine having that many languages, but just playing devil's advocate.

The linktree for Warm looks nice, but the linktree in Wuthering is just straight sexy.

Now if I could just get used to calling it Pinning and not Stickying :D

I can see myself automatically re-ordering them just as a normal part of my process of pinning things. I'm kind of a freak like that. So I'm content with it like it is. Besides the UI is slick enough that it's will only take seconds to re-order them and how often do we really pin topics?

I think this is one of those features that no one misses right now, because they don't have it. That said I also think this is one of those features that every single forum admin will use once they do. Very useful imho.

It's also what IPB uses directly, so it's not like I can just rip it off. I'll think about it while I'm finishing up the news feature.
The same could be said for the Sliders. The way I see it IPB doesn't have a patent on radio buttons, but Apple might have a patent on Sliders :eheh:
