We used the wedge back in the day to guide the direction the tree would fall, and if it's not done right, there could be big problems. And as far as I can tell the wedge is in place and as Nao puts it this one is guiding the eye of storm, if you will? I like the way it's going, and if it turns out perfect, I have no problems with that at all!

No matter what is said or done, there only a few here what are doing, so let's, let them do their thing, they doing so well! and if they decide to take a break, who could blame them, although I feel they want to stay on track!

Thank you guys for all your doing for the Forums and such!

regards,
Maxx.

Yes ...agree,  I only use the  Xammp for local testing of word press and SMF and theme related stuff, for testing checking things out off line is cool... I play around with SMF alpha and WP themes  this way, then online. When I'm done it's all shut down. Much faster this way as mentioned above!
You can learn a few tricks this way if you are new at this code stuff, like me!

Off-topic / Shared Hosting Info FYI 4 all to consider.
« on April 12th, 2013, 11:34 PM »
First  I'd like to say the Team of 2 here at Wedge are working hard everyday to decrease the amount code and possibly database usage, and this is a very good thing.

So to try and make is short, Yesterday I got a notice from one shred account I have had for about 10 years, that I'm now all of a sudden using too much combined  MySQL storage and tables. 50MB and 1000 tables!

First thing that comes to mind is that they say when you sign up that you have unlimited databases and storage, and accounts and then they come back at you with, a warning and time limit to lower the DB tables and storage to under 1000 tables. and if you get close to 50MB of storage ( combined storage all databases) look out, here it comes again!

Ok unlimited DB's and storage and accounts ( Domains, ) so if you offer service to many like I do without charge and a few have forums or blogs/ what ever, you will use up your table limit in no time. Just want you all to be aware of this when choosing your hosting options.

OK I can upgrade to double the price for their 3,000 table package. But they should tell you these things when you sign up and not have this hidden in the terms of service and or change the terms of services after you sign up and expect you to be happy with these changes. Just saying...

At present and for many years now, I have my site just to store and presnt Rock tunes in general Info that some may benefit from, No money to be made, no ads no donations. What to do the little guys get's it again and again.

Got to make serious Bucks to have a server unless you, run your own machine ( Hint).!
I love experimenting with the SMF and Themes and other stuff to much, to throw in the towel yet!

Again all this is understandable, it slows things down for everyone on that server, But they to me are not be truefull when advertising this stuff! and should be clearly stated before sign up. and you need to pray you don't get allot of visits daily! LOL

Features / Re: Moderation Centre overhaul
« on April 10th, 2013, 02:39 PM »
I like the idea of revamping the moderation feature/section, and I was thinking? is it possible to have a post reported appear like the new member awaiting approval?  or even in the notification system that you already have implemented here!

I know this may sound outrages,  but for me there should only be alerts or notification and action to be taken and that action logged, what would be nice is to have it so that if a member is reported that you could click that persons name an it would take you to  where you can deal with that individual like ban, or warn, approve or what ever.
And do away with the menu yes item, yes.
If not the notification?
User Area
like: Hello, Moderator "name"

Unread post
Unread replies
Awaiting approval
Moderate alert
Of course this is up to you guys and  the way it is, not very useful!

Off-topic / SMF Theme stuff
« on April 6th, 2013, 11:47 PM »
Ok, not suggesting anything, just what I'm doing! while waiting around, keeping busy! Just general info for the readers here!

Working on a new theme that will have no drop down, just the basic menu, bar with the main links, save allot of code and trouble and still take me where I want to go!
I let plenty of room at the top for any related image, for user's site!

Also adding a Vertical menu that will take me to some matching  HTML pages for, say, Contact us, terms of service and About of what ever pages, you may want.

Of course they will need manual edits for certain thing, but most of the links back and forth can be pre made for SMF use.

also creating a larger top section and a cell for a general statement or Google ads or maybe a flash gallery frame.

when I get something presentable I'll show it: :)

I like  Xammp.... works great on windows, I 'll need to try it on Ubuntu later on. It also works great with MySql. thus far!

But on Xammp I would only turn whatt you need in the control panel, and remember to turn off when not used , so it does not drain some of you resources, On Windows any way! :)

Features / Re: Crazy idea: fonts as a preference
« on March 28th, 2013, 12:23 PM »
I feel if the user or member has the ability to set certain looks and feel that they like, from their profile, is a great idea, to and extent. and they should also be aware of this option, not everyone has the same eyes and vision, and I would how ever limit the font styles to the standard type fonts, so they don't come back complaining theta things are out of or overflowing their vision window, Or post window. Arantor is on to something here because it about user friendly! I would have at least 5 or 6 choices. but no crazy fonts.
