The Pub / Re: Wedge repo -- installation feedback
« on January 29th, 2014, 03:16 PM »
Did the Install Yesterday On a sub-domain/ created DB  > uploaded all files via ftp > had all DB info ready, typed in the url and let the install process begin, Install went well no issues, well done!

Note the redirect to install worked great, installed my information > was done in a few!

For those who no not > the info in the form fields during install are on example, you must enter you DB name User db name and passwords you created for that DB, "local host" is the only one you will use! > don't forget to remove the Install.php at the finish of the install, then I would go a head and down load the settings.php to you local disk for back up purposes.

Thanks!

I think Its just great...I like Bloc's work as most know, but this something that really breaks out from the Old look of SMF if you will. I mean It's not the Same old same old and does not look like other forums either, and that was what I was following mostly at Bloc's work, But the more in to this the more I can see where the hard work went! I know and exspect some bugs as with anything new in various real world situations and such. ( I'm still exploring all the stuff) :)

But I can say me like better than the 2.1 alpha so far, there are a few things I'd like to see , but you need a break and I some are finding little things. I wish Pete could have stay the course with you on this though! but what can I do or say! Kinda glad though that he is on the alpha project and seems to be doing the Job on it.

Do you have wish list or maybe later when get some rest, then you could just say No or Yes :)

Maxx

It's just great don't what else to say! I love it!

Not sure if this is of any help, but when I do a theme and add an additonal directory to it, I just use like "/mx" for my files or /img for my image files... could /na work? or am I still lost?

Edit: /mx/styles.css
              responsive.css
       /mx/script.js
              responsive.js
              jQuery.js
       /mx/img/
             all my images

Yes Crip has been inspired by Bloc and Making themes for many years now, what he called simple SMF themes always keeping with the SMF tradition yet expressing him self in the many 200- 500 themes he made ( maybe more ) was hard for me to keep up with them all - from around Version 1.1 till now 2.0.6, he was like a theme factory let tell ya! he was truly an amazon guy. He was also on the tiny portal support team and help anyone he could with many issue and concerns, asking nothing in return, though offered many times!
Jim and I, were real close with Jeff and always keep in touch with his family, when ever we felt he was not feeling well, he had suffer so many years and no one knew except those close by. great lose to the SMF community.  And Yes Bloc he - we know and appreciate all you have done also, will never forget... Thanks and May Jeff rest in peace:

@Drunken Clam, ( thanks!)

Yes Crip Rest Peace, MY good friend and Brother.

@ Nao and BjornHK,

I love what you both are doing, I have no hard feelings and Can understand both sides. even though my work, is not as great you guys, or even close. I only do it to please me. in reality, on one side of coin, People when given the free keep asking for more and more, and you get very little in return at times, they keep asking for changes and doing things their way and get pissed when you disagree. I always felt pleasure in what I have done and I ask for opinions all the time, and some get them and sometimes not, but when it comes down to it what I real like is what counts.
But the n most important thing to me is, if someone or a least a few can learn from what I do, then this is the real reason we do what we do, along with our own learning along the way!

Before I was involved in SMF and or the Internet I did allot of things most can only dream doing,
I only I can appreciate that and take with me in the end.
Anything now is just a given, a day to make better and learn more from others and share it at the same time.

You only have one chance in life to do good or bad, and If you feel you can take the good with you then you done you deed my friends!

Just image what our Fathers before us had to do just get by! I mean everywhere and every body!

Just saying!

kind regards,
Maxx

What about a link or button to the info center stuff, @Noa you have some great points there also, support and the GA thing, as far as I know GA is still the same at reading your stats, and the link may take out some clutter on the front page and the user/admin will still be happy!

Coffee Time!

Arantor,
+1
I feel some of this stuff is not needed and or necessary. If you visit a site, right off you can if peeps are active  on that site, by losoking at the latest posts ( dates) and how many there are, so this is what counts not what happened 3 years ago, ( maybe to the staff only )?
Some site even gun deck the post, visits and stuff or try to find a way to do, useless, information.
If you have site that get millions of visits per day you maybe a winner of some kind revenue , if you have a site that has content that the people want you will not have time to think about the post counts :) and how many were on line, at least not displayed on the pages.
now if your server crashes from over load then, it time for consider; is it worth paying for a new server or note ( upgrade ) and your log will tell you what's up with the traffic from your Cpanel..
allot of stuff is just nice to have, but not needed.
as far as post counts this good for staff and Hero Members, that really contribute to the content of the site and it's subject matter.... however some just post Cow patch stuff to get the post counts, up or to get their sigs noticed for spamming purposes, ( another useless thing , unless for staff and or supporters of the cause!
Not too long ago, I had to delete 4000 members that just lurk and or try to spam, or hack or who cares what, there gone... so this stuff is useless in the long run, but may be of help to the admins, but I don't trust the counts anyway.
The only thing there I think is sometimes helpful, is who is on line and that is also duplicated, once logged in!

Maxx

As I think was mentioned also it would be wise to have a local Off line server and MySQL setup for Alpha testing for several reasons. and if you know not why you maybe should not apply! :)

Maybe then Beta testing could be later on done, on private on-line testing site, or ever the Alpha approved by the Gentlemen in charge here... of course things thinks are up to them and, I'm sure they working all angles of testing!

I never much ever cared for Vboard, I like SMF better in many ways, and hopefully Wedge will and SMF will get more attention now. Nut still the Wedge and the plug-in ideas, as they seem, will be bigger plus, in way the more usefulness of the system (not just a forum). Never had much trouble operation the older versions of Vb, but like I said did not care for it, and they all looked to the same, at lease most times!

Many times these things happen when they get too big, and gain too much confidence. ...same thing happens to Face B00k and others out there, so this the time for SMF to get moving, maybe?? or not. depends on ( who Knows ) now days but the door is opening! I know Wedge is ever moving so, that's cool!

Maxx
