Title: A little something I threw together

So about a week ago I randomly sat down in Photoshop and threw together a suggestion for an alternative layout for the SMF installation script, since I've always found it ugly and messy (sorry, but it's true). I posted it in a couple of unrelated places[1] and got some positive feedback so I thought hey, why not give it a try over here as well, where some real hardcore SMFers can tell me what they think (I also don't want to waste time over at SM.org...). Hope you're okay with that, heh :unsure:

I tried to keep this one small and clean, yet still informative for people who aren't as used to it as us nerds. I didn't go with Curve's colours and layout since, quite frankly, I'm dead sick of it. It just doesn't work any more. This one is a lot (!) more modern, to me.
That does means it doesn't have much of an SMF-feel to it, of course, which may be both good and bad. To me it's good, since SMF needs a huge overhaul UI-wise anyhow. Here goes:

You don't mean Wedge Installer? :P
Maybe you can use it with TE's Wedge installation script...

Well, the Wedge devs would be more than welcome to borrow any or all ideas from this concept, I wouldn't mind. :)

- I like SMF's installer, myself... Don't see what there's not to like, especially compared with earlier versions... We kept it pretty much the same in Wedge, except for a few touches of Wine.

- Why is sm.org a waste of time? I wouldn't know myself since I'm still banned after all this time...

- Wedge has rounded corners on inputs and has a custom select box as you may have seen in the dedicated topic. I doubt, however, that it's available as early as in the installer...

- I'm not sure that popups are best in terms of usability...? It's always tempting to use them, I know!

- Can't speak for Pete. He's been AWOL for 4 days now... I have a feeling he's going to quit. :(

Hence my fear.
But he wouldn't quit without giving me a copy of the svn or something... So he hasn't left yet. Hopefully.

Anyway. Do you think you've learned enough about the Wedge codebase to be able to develop for it? (Does anyone, actually?)

I'm not going to quit at this stage, just taking some time to figure out what I want to do in 2012, and get rid of everything else so I can put time into the things that matter.

Just been so burnt out by one thing after another after another :(

Looks good, btw.

At least, we certainly need to determine how we'll keep up with our 2011 rhythm... It's probably impossible to do that with just passion, so we need to consider ways to... keep ourselves motivated to work on Wedge ;)

Did you RL issues... Fix themselves somehow? Or are you still in the same situation...?

No, they're ongoing but they seem like they can be resolved in a productive way so we're working on it. The house is a bit quieter, at least.

That's certainly something I've found. I spent most of 2011 chasing my tail trying to do too many things and fucked it up by achieving very little in the end.

As project admin in RH you can download a backup of the repo

Yes. First, I think, we'll need to get a list down on what definitely must be in the alpha. Once that is out, we can plan the beta, and so forth.
