Yup, vBulletin is STILL in the process of suing XenForo, and I mention this because today was supposed to be a big day - the day when the motion to dismiss was heard in the court and subsequently denied, so vBulletin's owner and XenForo are going to go to court in January.
Combined with how bad vB 5 is turning out to be, you'd think more groups would try and take advantage of this situation...

What groups..?

How bad is it? I'm not following forum news in general(only Wedge) :)
The only news related to IB that I read is the fiasco between IB and WikiTravel

Nao: Groups like us. With this flounder of two of the three big paid systems, you'd think phpBB, MyBB, SMF etc. would step up their game as they stand to clean up.
0x: Apart from the list of 50-odd features removed from vB4, instances of needing 100 queries per page, having a fat lot of bloat per page (one example suggested that the content : page code ration was something like 8% of the page code was actual content... I could go on but it's shaping up to be a trainwreck.

If they want to take advantage, they'll have to change their model to a commercial one, because so many IPB/vB/XF users are pretty adamant that free software is shit...0x: Apart from the list of 50-odd features removed from vB4, instances of needing 100 queries per page, having a fat lot of bloat per page (one example suggested that the content : page code ration was something like 8% of the page code was actual content... Ooh, nice...
-
That's the thing, with the way things are going, people *are* looking elsewhere, and not just at IPB.
-
Do you see many ex-paying people flock to SMF..?
-
I do see ex paying people coming to SMF, but the biggest influx was when vB 4 first came out and it was a wreck. Most of the people that were going to already did. But when vB 5 emerges, I imagine we'll see an influx again - all the free packages benefited, though I'd note that IPB has also been offering a discount code to people coming from vB 5.
-
Lulz...
Can't they offer discount codes to people who used to be fans of their free version instead? ;)
-
Nope, haha.
-
Well, their legacy lives on... In a certain smiley set :^^;:

Let's hope try come here :D

Eh what is the result? XenForo lost?
I just read that the case is dragged on
http://xenforo.com/community/threads/california-case-update.10037/page-256#post-439877
-
Lost? Oh dear, no.
The short version is that XenForo asked the court to throw the case out because they feel there's no case to answer, the judge said no, it's going to a full trial, and the date for that trial - IB lawyers vs XenForo - will be in January sometime.
-
If I'm following what they're saying at forumcomplaints... Apparently, XenForo is dead or at least dying. Their devs left the project, etc...
-
That's pretty much the gist of it, though what I've heard from other sources would agree with this.
I mean, Mike left XenForo to start his own business, Kier split up from his wife, and that's going to take a toll.
There's been no updates to XenForo in months, and the devs were supposed to respond to questions put by the community, but it hasn't happened - in every respect it is dead until we see some evidence to the contrary.
-
I was thinking about purchasing Xenforo again but decided it's not the best thing to do right now or ever lol
-
Well, there has been no development in months, at least none that is being admitted to (and given the state of play, it is unlikely there actually is any)
Right now we're waiting for the latest twist in court which will be next week where there's a minor scuffle in court before the big day in court, if that happens. Depending on the outcome of the next scuffle will have a lot to do with what comes next, so Dec 17th is the date to watch for, with the main trial seemingly set for 4th Feb next year.
You can keep up with the really shortened news/status on this thread(http://xenforo.com/community/threads/status-of-lawsuit.39082/) should you so decide you want to.
Question is, why would you buy XenForo on its own? It's not had any development in a year, honestly you'd be better spending that money on the IPB core/forum if you wanted to actually buy a forum software.
-
I had xenforo once and like the simplicity if the admin panel and it stopped there. That's why I sold my license.
-
The reason for its simplicity is that it's actually got fewer features than other software. (I am a current licence holder.)
-
I agree with that, probably the reason why I sold it lol
-
You're not alone, actually. There's quite a few people who are surprised with how little there is, comparatively. 1.2 was supposed to fix a lot but the way the lawsuit dragged on (we're two years in now) has done a lot to screw around with Kier and Mike; I believe Mike now runs his own photography business while I know Kier and his wife split up.
-
I haven't been to the site or community forum in a long time. Alot has happened since then.
-
I mostly pieced it together from reading what used to be xenforosucks.com which became forumcomplaints.com, but it's been sold to someone else who will be redeveloping it, and likely dumping all the interesting content there.
