Title: RIP Steve Jobs
Post by: Arantor on October 6th, 2011, 03:16 AM
I'm not going to dwell too much on what's happened, because to be honest I'm still a bit numb, knowing that one of the great computing revolutionaries has departed the building, and far too young.

What I will do, though, is leave you with a quote from his speech at Stanford in 2005. I hadn't heard it before today, I wish I had done so, now, it resonates with me (as I'm sure InI readers will probably pick up on). Bold emphasis mine.
Quote from Steve Jobs
No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

I think everyone is posting that exact quote everywhere, even myself. :(
It really is a sad day for us all, he is an inspirational to us all.

Indeed. He was one of the figures where you never imaged seeing them leave from their spot because it's silly to think that someone else could be there but them. I always thought that he would just be to overcome his cancer. Maybe not back to 100%, but I never imaged it finally catching up to him. It's almost surreal. Reading news about Apple isn't going to be the same anymore.

RIP Steve Jobs.  For as young as he was when he traveled on, his journey here on Earth was impressive.  I don't know much about the man on a personal level, but it's safe to say that few who live to be twice his age will accomplish 1/100th in their professional careers.  I know for a fact that I could have never kept up with him, as my ambition doesn't measure up... though still, that's one garage I'd have liked to stumble upon back in 1976.  It must have been a hell of a ride!!!

Steve Jobs was the Einstein of our time. A great thinker, a great innovator, and a great man. His legacy will most likely live on for a long time as one of the greatest people in history. Say what you like about Apple and their products, you can't deny the influence they have had over our everyday lives.

Here's to you, you magnificent turtle-necked genius. I hope iHeaven treats you well.
