See, you only think he was referencing LOTR. But, in fact, he is serious. First, Wedge will take over SMF. Then, it will take over the internet. And finally....the world! *cue evil laugh*

You guys have been doing it quite well for many many years 'over there'.  I don't post much: but I've been watching ....

So I know the quality of your work: and I have high expectations for Wedge.

Will there be a public beta test version, or will Wedge be born 1.0 Gold?

I sometimes donate time as a beta tester to the occasional project I deem worthy ....  :eheh:

Thanks ;)

We'll have alpha and beta sessions for Wedge, the alpha will hopefully start in September.

Well the alpha will be public so no need to sign up eheh.

PS: can you tell me, on a psychological level, your reason for changing the font size and color on each of your posts?

That's something I have always wonder too and never asked.

Oh, Yes.  I seem to do that across most of the forums I post in, don't I?

I think it is a whole big stack of minuscule reasons and ideas. Primarily amongst them, I think, is the fact that I'm a crazy non-conformist Aquarian rebel.

I think everyone should use different colors in their posts. If nothing else just to make the world a more colorful place. I prefer cool colors most of the time but green is too low contrast and more people prefer blue to green anyway.

My aging eyes can see most things on most web pages OK but the tiny size 9 font most forums use is too small for my comfort so I boost it to a 12 minimum just for the forums I post in. Others may have to squint at everyone else's posts too.

I think forums have buttons like (http://wedge.org/Themes/default/images/bbc/bold.gif), (http://wedge.org/Themes/default/images/bbc/italicize.gif), (http://wedge.org/Themes/default/images/bbc/underline.gif), and (http://wedge.org/Themes/default/images/bbc/strike.gif)  for a good purpose. But I'm not afraid to try to use ALL the buttons in both rows instead of just the left two in each row.

There should be no mistaking Which Sea Mac I AM! If you knew what a Strange and Unique being I AM in real life you'd fully understand that LIFE Itself is attempting a full and colorful expression of itself through me: and standing out is the very least I can do! I'm not here to live up to anyone else's ideas of what life should be! I'm here to be the VERY Best Sea Mac I can be!

Comic Sans suits my personality .... About 2/3 of the people out there are like"WTF!" at me and the other 1/3 go "What a delightful Elf! What a Magickal Sprite!"

And I AM a Sprite! My Format - Guardian: To Mend and Defend. There is no greater life that that of service to others.

I told both of my psychiatrists "I don't SUFFER from Mental Illness: I AM enjoying every second of it!" and they Both Nodded (and one said "Yes.").

And, frankly, the way the world is going at this second, I'd rather be crazy than to join in the insane fray to grab the world's last Euro/Yen/Dollar/Franc/Etc.  I'm going to HEAVEN in a Handbasket and all of y'all that don't want to go to HELL in a Handbasket are welcome to tag along.

There appears to be a posting bug in SMF 2 RC2 that inserts a hard carriage return after an IMG forum tag: because those images were posted all in a single line separated by commas (and readable as a sentence). The last time I tried posting smilies I removed them because of the unsatisfactory results. This time I'm leaving the broken post as is and pointing out that smilies come with a carriage return whether you want it or not.

This forum runs a very modified RC4. It's also not a bug, it's by design here because this is mostly the same codebase as on Noisen which is mostly for blogs, and most people when in blogs post big pictures, where the line break makes sense.

Try the bareimg tag instead.

Post by: Nao on August 6th, 2011, 08:25 PM
Okay, okay! I give up. I've reset the css for IMG tags ;)
Now it should behave normally. I suggest you all go back to using [ img ] instead of [ bareimg ]. The only reason for it, indeed, is blogs, and to prevent people from posting large images with an img tag that will put them inline (bad results). But I'm not using blogs as such in here, so there's really no point... Let's just say I'll trust users to properly do linebreaks before adding an img tag.

Mac Sea, I'm fine with 'standing out' if you like, but please :sob: don't ever, ever use Comic Sans... I think I'd be willing to ban anyone using it in a place I'm moderating. :niark:

Thanks for telling me about your "Comic Sans" allergy. I figured when I saw this:  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/comic-sans-remover/ that it wasn't a very well liked font.

Obviously, if I prefer it, I MUST be Insane ...

But I have to be crazy to play Santa Claus, anyway .... and succeed.

Perhaps you should switch to Firefox and install that add on. No matter what poopheads like me post out there: that nasty font will never sully your eyeballs again. Firefox is SO useful ....

Or you could do what I did; remove the Comic Sans font and replaced it with a separate font instead - a long time ago I butchered Arial Bold and make it have the Comic Sans name, consequently I just have anything in "Comic Sans" turning up in a less hideous font, but the fact it's bold tells me that it's not just what it seems to be ;)

Comic Sans has a place, but it's clear that a lot of people reeeeeeeeeally hate it - http://bancomicsans.com/

Even removing the file simply falls back to sans serif. :)

And opera allows replacing fonts out of the box iirc.

I know that but I wasn't sure if I had any funky things about that 'absolutely' expected Comic Sans to be there, like some old games or something.

I found it amusing that the words "Ban Comic Sans" were in the Comic Sans Font.

Almost inevitably, the Comic Sans backlash has produced a backlash of its own. There are already signs that the font may be becoming retro-chic, in the same way that we now embrace 80s fashion and pop. Most significant of all, it has become highly regarded by those who work with dyslexic children - one of the better uses for which it was never intended.

I used to have a problem with dyslexia: but now I can read upside down and mirrored font faces. Perhaps that is the root of my attraction.

My main issue with Comic Sans is probably when I see it used in web comics because of its name... When people could actually choose the better one -- an actual GOOD looking font for comic reading, like Wild Words.

Wild Words IS a lovely font and I would GLADLY toss over Comic Sans for it but for one little factor.

Wild Words costs $200 - Comic Sans is free. Considering the cost difference and the extreme similarity of the glyphs I predict Comic Sans will grow, not shrink, in popularity with web comic designers.

Seems like they are admitting that it HAS a valid use (somewhere/somewhen) and even they can not live without it. (for less than $200, that is)

Ironic indeed. Why, I could mine $50 worth of I-ron out of that domain just sitting here (with one paw tied behind my back)!

Yeah it's expensive. A friend of mine used it for years to make scanlations based on translations I was making of a Japanese book. He never told me it wasn't free. But then again, scanlations are pretty much illegal so...

Anyway, even Komika (free) is better than Comic Sans.
