Print Page - Installation problem

Im trying to install Wedge in a newly installed server but i just get a white screen, im clueless on what to look for, im using the latest version of wedge.
Ubuntu 13.10
PHP 5.5.3
Apache 2.4.6

At which point..?
- When pointing the browser to /index.php?
- After the first step?
- Somewhere else?

When point at index.php to start the installation.

Please take a look at your .htaccess.
Is there a line with:

If it's commented out, please remove the #.

And/or try accessing the installer with /index.php, rather than just /..? Would this work?

(And/or technically, why didn't you simply copy the htaccess from /install into your root folder..?)

So that's why I believe it's an .htacces thingy.

I did copy the htaccess file, and accessing with /index.php still gives white screen.

Did you have a file in this folder?

Please add the follwing after DocumentRoot:

Then restart Apache. I think this should solve your problem.

I don´t know if this may help but im using digitalocean vps, i set up the lamp server in ubuntu 13.10, since it could be a problem about the way i configured lamp i created a new vps now with ubuntu 12.04 with the default image they have over digitalocean that comes with lamp already installed and configured by them, this one with php 5.3.10, Apache 2.2.22 and still shows a white screen.
http://37.139.5.119 --> ubuntu 13.10
http://146.185.157.204 --> ubuntu 12.04
Wedge is in the root folder of the www folder.

I'm sure you'll get this error because of the missing "Options FollowSymLinks" directive.

Restarted apache then the server itself.

Can you grant me SSH access to your server?
If not, I need all files that are included in /etc/apache2.

Apache setups on Ubuntu have to handle some permission changes. Make sure your webserver directory runs under the same user as your webserver.

If you don't have access to httpd.conf you can set it in .htaccess:

But it's not recommended. Setting it global in httpd.conf is more performant than putting it in .htaccess.

I usually disable root login and give permissions to another account, thats why the first time i tested wedge i didnt had this problem. Anyway thanks alot for your help.

Yeah, i thought about this too.
IMHO there's only one simple way: adding a view lines to .htaccess. But for the price that this will slow down all others. :(

Let the installer create a symbolic link and test it with PHP "is_link".
If it's available, do nothing. If not, add "Options +FollowSymLinks " to .htaccess.

Execution of PHP files isn't the problem.
Problem is that the installer have to move some files and directories. This fails with error 500.
And yes, the biggest culprit is to become write access to this folder.
So for that we can check with php_uname for Ubuntu and display some hints to the user.

The question for me: is it only Ubuntu? No!
What if someone with with another OS creating a directory under root and point the webserver to this directory?
Sorry to say that, but there will be always special cases for different setups. I think that in a "normal" setup the installer works just fine. So it's save to have a web installer.

And for kimikelku (because it's difficult to find with no skin...) first click on Admin on what should be the top menu, then the option is under Server & Maintenance, Server Settings, General - click that and then about a page up from the bottom are the two options Enable Compressed Output & Enable Compressed JS/CSS.

I had a problem installing, which at the time was thought to be a problem with Zend Server. I fixed that problem by playing with the folder permissions but got the no-skin screen. Of course I assumed that this was down to Zend Server so didn't post :)

How exactly is this topic 'fixed' and 'archived' when I didn't get a chance to participate in the last page of debates and there is clearly a fault in Wedge that prevents it from working out of the box on some setups..?
