Feature: Per-board Languages and Language flags
Developer: Arantor & Nao
Target: users
Status: 99% (complete, although more could be done?)
Comment:
Language packs can now offer a "Flag.language.png" file that will be used by Wedge to show flags where needed. Boards can now specify a default language that may be different from the overall default. User preference is still given priority, then the board language, then the overall language. Boards with a special language get a flag shown next to them.
Also, Wedge shows all available languages in the top-left corner, through a list of flags you can click to immediately switch the interface to the desired language.

Here is the deal 8-)
While you're working on a major source of hard, :^^;: no sleep and rest, we would also like to not sit idle.
It would be desirable to start to work over translate of a forum into other languages. What at an output of the first public version to have possibility to work with a forum on customary, a native language (not at all it English :hmm: ).
How you look what to give wishing language files, what already operation over forum internationalization now would begin?
I would like now to start work on the translation of the user interface and admin panel to Russian
-
It would be desirable for us not to get a cease and desist notice. We cannot and will not release a version until after SMF 2.0 and not before we are ready.
Besides, it already supports French too
-
Blarg, Arantor was to fast :/
But if you add those things then you need at least some languages to choose from xD
-
Arantor, I do not ask the entire forum, but only the language files
for rough translation
Of course without an interface, some phrases will be difficult to translate correctly.
But prepare all still standing
-
And I'm not prepared to provide them.
Firstly, they are copyrighted and until such times as the licence change is complete, we cannot redistribute the files.
Secondly, we change things rapidly, so rapidly that you could complete the translation only for it to be horrendously out of date. Rather than you doing it over and over, there is no way we'd release the files until much closer to release.
-
sadly :^^;: :^^;: :^^;: we will then wait until it will be possible
by the way :hmm:
as a plan to distribute a forum?
English version and a separate language pack
or
You can then download the package directly to the required language
Example: Opera browser - before downloading, you can choose the English version or Russian, or German, or Spanish, or ....................
-
Really, there is no way Wedge will be available in anything else than French and English during the alpha sessions. Maybe beta will introduce other languages but I doubt it -- we'll strongly discourage anyone from translating Wedge until we're done stabilizing the language files. There haven't been major changes since I implemented AeMe into Wedge, but it's clearly far from complete.
Opera is updated as language files go. 95% of all alpha/preview versions are only provided in English. They usually add other translations during the RC phase.
-
Well .............
you can always compare the files by programs such as win merge or araxis
find differences in the changes file versions
example of the opera belongs to the future
By the time the wedge is stable
here and ask how to make a plan?

A diff tool won't be enough to help, really. It'll be pretty much mandatory, though.
There have been so many changes in some areas...
Probably I'll have to rely on writing some kind of tool to help retrieve older strings and just ask translators to do the new ones.
Heck, maybe I'll have to rewrite the way language strings are handled. We discussed it many months ago but couldn't come up with something fast and efficient enough at the time.
-
hi, maybe dev should consider using some of translating tools like pootie (http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/pootle/index) if applicable in php forum software of course.
Cheers!
-
Maybe not because of how our language files are arranged...
-
If it still works with $txt it's kind of complicated since the variables will also be translated...
-
For now, we'll have to let translators rely on diff tools... Maybe we could generate a diff of the language files ourselves, at least to determine the amount of data that changed.
