Title: About Sphinx search engine

My current SMF forum contains almost 500,000 posts. To make searches faster, right now I am using the "Sphinx" search engine:

There is an API for SMF available here:

My two questions are...

1. Does Wedge include any kind of searching optimization so that using Sphinx would not be necessary?

2. Could the Sphinx search engine be used with Wedge?

Without a doubt you can port this mod to wedge, it's just not done yet :D.

Yeah it can be used with Wedge. I have tried it personally.

I remember Arantor was very much a fan of Sphinx (he was a pillar of their community at some point before he joined SMF, I think..?), and he wanted to do some bridging for Wedge, but I don't think it ever amounted to anything.
I don't believe Wedge needs any particular magic to accelerate its searches, though... I've never had problems with them.
Then again, Wedge.org doesn't have 500k posts... The most I've had on one of my forums is 250k+, and searches were going fine, even with vanilla SMF...
