So I got to thinking today about polls, since I made one, don't do that often enough haahaha.
OK, so here's what I have in mind about improving them. Not saying that all of these *are* going in but this is what's on my mind for them.
* Allowing admin to set the maximum number of poll answers (currently no limit)
* Fixing the bug where way too many answers can cause issues
* Option to display the choices randomly to people viewing the poll (because people have a tendency to pick the first one), though the order would remain consistent for viewing results
* Multiple questions per poll
* Voting with points rather than individual votes (e.g. having 5 points to distribute between 3 answers)
* Pie charts as an optional display type (may or may not use the chart code I had before, dunno)
Thoughts?

Yes.

Not sure when I'd use it but it falls into the category of " the more tools the better".* Fixing the bug where way too many answers can cause issues
Comment unnecessary :).* Option to display the choices randomly to people viewing the poll (because people have a tendency to pick the first one), though the order would remain consistent for viewing results
Very cool idea. +1* Multiple questions per poll
This sounds a bit like a survey.
Thinking about Beer, what is your rating of the following brews on a scale from 1 to 10?
1. Guinness
2. Dos Equis
3. Killian's Irish Red
4. Coors
Now thinking about the cost, what is the maximum you would pay for a six pack?
1. $5
2. $6
3. $7
4. >$8
You know there was (is ?) a survey app that you used to be able to install in Cpanel. I used it for a while years ago for surveys that we put together. But in addition to polls what about surveys from within the forum? :hmm:* Voting with points rather than individual votes (e.g. having 5 points to distribute between 3 answers)
Why not?* Pie charts as an optional display type (may or may not use the chart code I had before, dunno)
Again, nice to have as it presents an area to the eye rather than bland numbers.

Well... if you can have multiple polls per topic, where people can vote for multiple answers or score things, and the admin can see who voted what... don't you already have that ;)

LimeSurvey - I went back and checked.

You're probably right (as usual) but I thought a survey gathered the data together in a final presentation. It is a bit much for two or three questions I'll admit.
As you said it would be useful though, at any rate. :)

Pulling a proper set of results from a survey is definitely plugin scope, but if the core has the information already, it's no big deal to do anything else after that.

* Multiple questions per poll
I'm confused - does this mean more than one poll per post?* Voting with points rather than individual votes (e.g. having 5 points to distribute between 3 answers)
We use these, it's a plugin. Actually, thinking about it I'm the only one who does, so maybe the interface is a bit complex?
-
Yes, multiple polls per post. Other systems offer this.
As far as using points, I think it's a bit of a niche thing, however when you think about it, the only real difference between it and normal voting is essentially just one of interface.

Thinking about it more, even I don't understand it! Each month I run a points-poll and I have it written down what numbers go where to set it correctly.
