Title: Spice up registration page?
Post by: agent47 on February 28th, 2012, 01:49 AM
So I was wondering with SMF's current registration/agreement page looking extremely unappealing, users don't actually even take a moment to read what's on it because the text is so cluttered, there's so much to read, font is pretty very ordinary looking, not much color and stuff like that. Then there's the registration which again looks very stale. Why do I find these pages important, it may not be the first impression the user gets of the site but it something that will stick. Add some ajax features to it maybe?

AJAXing it up rules out users with screen readers and other similar non visual browsers.
Also note that throwing around colour everywhere wouldn't make it any more appealing - no user I know ever reads the agreement no matter what's done to the front page.

Using framesets instead of the two blocks would look much better IMO.

I don't think it needs to be AJAX.

How exactly would you put things in framesets? Not sure what you're thinking of.
I do know that the agreement thing needs to be changed, like made easier to customise (without having to edit any files) and proper supporting of multiple languages etc.

The <frame> and <frameset> tags are not supported in HTML5, because they have a negative effect on the usability of a web page.
So I was wondering with SMF's current registration/agreement page looking extremely unappealing,
text of the agreement can be changed from ACP page supports the bbc You can make quite a decent page
I hope to wedge it will also be possible

Yeah, there are no plans to limit the functionality of Wedge in that respect (meaning it will still be possible to use bbcode etc to make the registration agreement) but the method by which it is done needs to change, since I'm not a fan of having it as a file needing to be updated (which means it needs to be writable etc.)

Oh yeah, the whole BBCode could work.
