Title: Zencart and a forum
Post by: Angie on November 24th, 2011, 10:57 PM
Have been reading the last few days looks good what your planning

Arantor I remember you over at sm.org apart from K@ your the only other one that ever helped me when I asked without making me feel like an idiot so thank you :)

Ok at the moment I have two websites on one hosting domain, one is my business site and runs zencart.
The other at the moment is my personal site and for my art and 3d  graphics it has smf 2.0.1 on at the moment there is no other free or paid forum I prefer yet,
Nao love the aeva media mod thank you for that :)

at some point in the future I want to add a shopping cart to my personal site that will be able to have one login for the forum and for the shopping cart.

the site currently runs simple portal aswell

Now at the zencart site they say its possible with smf but security might not be brilliant,

If I removed simple portal and used Zencart instead as the front end and  converted the forum to wedge would it be possible to intergrate wedge when its ready so it had one login for both the cart and the forum aswell as use aeva media and be secure ?

Thank you

And sorry if this is posted in the wrong place

Anything would be possible, in theory. Bridging ZenCart and Wedge would be little or no different to bridging to SMF, the big difference is that most people talk about bridging systems as being insecure when it's only that way if done *badly*.

That's the general case at least. Speaking specifically of ZenCart, a couple of years ago I had to modify a ZenCart installation to integrate Sphinx for searching. I didn't have to touch *too* much of the codebase but it was enough that suggested to me that I wouldn't want to do it again.

I have already thought about some kind of storefront plugin for Wedge but it's not been high on my todo list. I wouldn't generally go the other way anyway, because I can't imagine any site that has both a forum and a store component to put the store first (as opposed to using the forum as a CMS type base, and in any case, a properly consistent interface looks much more professional)

Thanks Arantor

I do not want my site to end up looking like this at all its hard to navigate but something along these lines at renderosity it has a free section, gallery, tutorials section and forum etc aswell as its marketplace (store)
as its 3d stuff that I do on this site so is similar contents
for the gallery will use aeva as like it and its a core feature in wedge if I read correctly?

Essentially, that site boils down to a content manager (which is basically what a portal does), plus a forum, plus gallery, plus store - seems to me that should fit nicely in line with having a forum as the base with a content manager (portal) around it with everything else integrated in nicely.

Aeva is a core feature, yes. Right now it's integrated about as well as it is into SMF but the plan is to integrate it more deeply and have it serve attachments as well as regular media items.

Thank you

ok so portal, forum with built in gallery and did I read that wedge would have a portal aswell? could of read wrong sorry if have
and a store that gets intergrated that sounds brilliant for what I will need,
im not a coder or programmer, can to a point find my way round a theme and alter it but do try to do  things myself
so intergrating the store would be my major headache but will figure out a way
and probably ask lots of questions but least will learn to do things for myself that way.

Also would there be a way to use the pictures in aeva in wedge to put in a post
as at the moment with most forums to use photos or graphics its a case of using a photobucket account etc using the img code link
its a pain as photobucket doesnt allow any kind of adult content and while mine isnt going to be adult it can be lets say sexy I obviously can store mine in my folders in my cpanel which is what I do but members would have to use there own albums on photobucket or flickr etc and they none allow anything slightly sexy lol

There's a sidebar built in and it's easier to set up a custom front page, but no portal as such built in. There is already a portal plugin, though it's going to need some work since it was first created.

I'll probably end up writing the storefront plugin, but I suspect at the same time I'm going to make it a (not expensive) paid plugin.

It is a bit easier to tweak the theme's colours and so on than it would be in SMF, much easier to do pure colour variations and still have them all be consistent.

Sure. You can even do it in Aeva+SMF, using the smg bbcode (as each item's page tells you!) but I think we renamed it to 'media' as a bbcode in Wedge rather than 'smg'.

Sure you need to do that if it's stored elsewhere (unless you set up some kind of integration, I know there's one for ImageShack and I thought there was one for Photobucket)

But if you do it through the gallery you can even limit who can see it.

Brilliant there is a plugin for the portal :)
the store plugin would be brilliant and I dont mind paying for it either, the site I use zencart on now is the start of my business and am just trying to get it off the ground so money is really tight for it, but by the time am ready to use a store on my other website am hoping the first will be up and running.
Glad the theme tweaking will be easier
thank you for the info on using pictures from aeva in posts
what that means is that I can set up albums for members so that they can use them to post there pictures etc without it affecting my albums and artwork
