Would you guys consider changing this to user preference?
I ask because I hate getting these with a passion but but 1 of my admins actually deals with new members so he wants to be notified. I'm not sure why this is an all or none deal so I think changing it so that only those who request to be notified will be notified would be a good thing.

I don't have a problem with this, but I'd rather make it an admin preference to list the people who want them instead...
-
That's fine.. anything that allows me not to get'em is just fine by me :)
-
See, if you make it a user preference, you implicitly have to start tying user preferences to permissions. I'm not saying we won't do that sometime, because it's possible we will as part of the overhaul, but I'd rather not force it to be a requirement.

Completely understand. I hadn't actually given a whole lot of thought to what the alternative should be. I just happened to check my email and got annoyed with all the new member has joined..... so first thought was if this is a user preference for admin then at least I wont get them anymore. As far as an admin just specifying who should receive them sounds like a better idea anyway.
-
OK, so next thought.
Should this be open to any forum member, or limited to - say - those who are admins and global moderators?
If the latter (which is what I'm guessing), I'm tempted to just make it a list of names with checkboxes...
-
I'd say admin/GM should be just fine. Intro topics or if a welcome plugin is made will take care of everyone else. Also since not all registrant are likely to be "real" members there no need to notify too many folks.
-
Bumpity. I've implemented this now in the admin panel.
It is just a list of checkboxes with names, too... but the list of names is derived from people who have the moderate_forum permission (which is what's needed currently to manage such people), and it's collapsed so that if you have a long list of people, you're not shown this massive list unless you expand the page.

Great! :)

Indeed, great work :)
