Title: Bookmarks

Integration of internal and social bookmarks for topics would be nice to have.

Cant't wait to try Wedge :)

What do you mean by internal bookmarks?

I thought about social bookmarks but not really convinced about it just yet.

The internal bookmarks bit could easily be done by doing an overhaul of the existing notification system, I think.

By adding notification on a topic, you are in essence bookmarking it. If the system is changed to set digest options per topic (i.e. direct notification, daily, weekly, or never at all) and the notification section gets a more prominent position in the profile/user section (which is already to be overhauled, if I recall correctly) then you're done. Well, aside from the social media bookmarks part. :P

I mean two different things:
The possibility to bookmark or favorite threads like the Bookmark Mod does for SMF:

And social bookmarking for FB, Google+, etc.

Yeah, I got that. :) I'm just saying an extra bookmarks section is unnecessary if the existing notification system is overhauled -- as it's essentially the same as bookmarking oftopic, but with an additional email digest. :)

Yes :)
That's really cool!

I have to admit I actually had a different idea for tracking topics of interest that wasn't really related to the notifications system.

I'm still not entirely sold on the whole social bookmarks thing, even though xenForo actually goes as far as putting them in the SEO configuration page, on the theory that Google's +1 and others are actually used by search engines for ranking purposes.

I'd be interested to hear it, really. :) (Perhaps I've missed a topic?)

Me neither. Then again, I go as far as block the damn things in my browser. :P

Can't remember where I talked about it but I suggested a table that records user/topic/relationship, where you could track user bookmarks, plus ignored topics which means you could then do all kinds of useful joins on it.

You could also then replace the participation index on the messages table with a row in this table, so that you can make things a little faster than making use of that other index.

I tried the social bookmarks feature on my 3 forums, and no one really used it, so I removed it.

The bookmarks mod, where a user can essentially maintain a list of favorite threads, is used quite a bit.  It, or an equivalent, would be a required feature for my forums.

I think it's something we're interested in doing like that, and as suggested, we might make it bigger - not just a list of topics you're interested in, but also a list of topics you're *not* interested in, since the actual logic is virtually identical.

This is a grand idea. I wish I would have thought of it. ;)
I can see this feature being used quite a bit on my forums.

It's called Ignored Topics and in case you didn't notice, it's already implemented in my custom SMF used on Noisen and Wedge.org (look at the "Ignore" button just at the end of this page.)
It's something Pete and I have been veeeery interested in implementing for a long time. :P (t's been He even found a "dirty hack" to implement it in one line of code, which actually was the moment when I realized Pete could think outside of the box (the key to innovation) and was someone I could work with and learn things from. :P

Anyway, yeah, 'followed' and 'ignored' topics are going to be there... But since they don't require big database rewrites, I *think* it will probably slip to Wedge 1.1 (or, heck, anything after 1.0, even if it's 1.0.5 I don't give a damn :P Depends on Pete's opinion on versioning.)

Wow!
This was back in 2011 :)

So here is the point:
Social integration is easy. We've got flitter, etc.

Bookmarks:
Should be easy too, but...
Either we adapt the Bookmark-Mod from S*F, or we can so it smarter. Therefor we need a bit work and a "follow this user" feature ;)
