Title: Creating a Front Page

I have a quick question with regards to creating a front page and then having a forum page (or "community") as a secondary page.

Is there any way to achieve this with the default Wedge subsystem without having to write a new page?

eg. I want to create a page website as a business page, that has a forum as an alternate page.

Hmm... That's the kind of thing that's easy to do in Wedge, normally.
Copy Home.php into another file, say Front.php, rename Home() to Front(), copy Home.template.php to Front.template.php, then do your modifications... Now go to the admin area, Home page settings, choose Custom action (I think it's called that), and enter 'Front' in the input box. Save. Should work...

A link to the forum..? Hmm, I think there's a setting in the admin area to have both links to the forum home, and to your website. Not sure, though...

There's no way to add links to the menu for now, I've never had any interest in doing this, so...

Also, generally speaking, if I'm not getting paid for the software, I could at least charge for custom dev... Right?! ::)

Lol, i dont need a site THAT bad (ill just use wordpress or joom), but i do agree.

You should accept paid dev if someone really needs it imho (even if you guys initially ruled it out)

We only took a decision not to make any decisions, if I may say... We didn't want to get into the technicalities of money making (selling the main software? selling plugins? selling support?), especially since we both knew we had little to earn here, and it would be more of a hassle than anything else. However, with Pete leaving the project and me having a kid, I guess I'm in a situation where I need to make an actual decision.
Of course, considering how few forums are currently using Wedge, despite it being 10 times better than any SMF or ElkArte package, I don't think I'm ever going to make over $100 for these 5 years of work, so yeah... Who cares, eh. Even selling the software + tech support won't bring much. The caveat, of course, is that I'll have to eventually push Wedge to the side, and devote myself to a business that actually makes me some money. :(

I guess it could be a "spare time" or "Passion" thing. Perhaps monetizing it would move it out of the realm of your little baby, and into your little headache.

Maybe keep it a "when you can" thing, you seem to enjoy it. If I knew dev i'd help, but i'm hopeless.

Either way I like the forum and I am going to keep at it (I briefly tried Elk and asked if there was a Wedge to Elk importer, and while I like it, the Wedge project seems to have more friendly people). :whistle:

Wedge is one of the best forums available.
But to get it more to public there should be an easy solution to include third-party pages.
Most sites have tons of static pages beside the forum. Why not let Wedge determine the look of them?

And here's the culprit: if a lot of sites running Wedge, it's possible to get sponsored by someone else (much better than running ads :) ).

So it takes a bit of personal effort to make it happen.
It would be very disappointing to see Wedge fall down.
Wedge is a Communiy-Management-System.... so let's give the Community the opportunity to grow with Wedge. ;)

That's what I envisaged... A way to create pages within the framework so as to not be tough for people to add, I reckon it could definitely be a winner.

That being said, i'm not a coder (yet), but I can definitely test like a mofo! Also, I don't want to force a development direction either way (I still like the forum!)
