Jumpy layout.
« on January 9th, 2013, 12:36 AM »
I'm seeing a strange behavior of the layout on Wedge I don't see on any other site.
Maybe I missed it but I haven't seen a topic about it yet.
Every page opens a bit bigger as it should be and then shrinks to the required size. This  happens in all themes and is independent of the size of the IE10 Window size.
It happens quit fast, but very noticeable.
Switching IE10 to compatibility mode solves the problem.

I'm using IE10 (desktop version) in Windows 8. Laptop has a nVidia 9300M GS graphics card.
Cleaning cookies, temporary IE files, updating graphics driver etc brought no improvement.

It's done that since forever, fairly sure it's deliberate? (Nao would know.)

Certainly there's magic involved in the sidebar and whether you're using the browser at more or less than 1000 pixels (less than that, the sidebar is collapsed to under the posts)

I always see the sitebar so I am pretty sure my IE10 Window is over a 1000 pixels.
But indeed when running IE10 in a bigger Window it only jumps up and down and doesn't change its size.
This jumpy behavior is not very attractive so I thought it would be good to tell.

Will this be solved before Wedge goes gold? Especially because IE10 will become the main browser on Windows.

Does it happen in other browsers?

And, no, it really won't become the 'main browser' on Windows. As it stands IE has been overtaken by Chrome more than once...

I have no other browsers installed as I am quit fond of IE. I know some people will declare me nuts for that. :eheh:
Maybe I will install other browsers to test. Not sure about that.
For now: bedtime

Uhm, never noticed this. I also tried without browser caching and still can't reproduce.

I can actually reproduce it on very rare occasion in Chrome. I've only thought it's actually related to the way the browser handles the radial gradient, because it's always looked to me as though it's moving in a circle fashion to get into position.

Yes, it's a known issue, and no it's not deliberate.
The reason it wasn't reported before is that people don't use the Skin selector (for some reason), and thus never 'tried' Wuthering before.
Wuthering happens to have a media query that removes its stylish borders when the browser window gets too narrow, and does it with a minor animation.
All browsers check the media query when refreshing the page, and use the media query states to show the page. Animations are discarded.

However, for some reason (thank you Microsoft as always), IE10 decides that when it loads a new page (e.g. you click a link Inside the forum), it should start with the default state and then execute media queries and their associated animations. Other browsers don't do that.

You know how it's called... It's a browser bug.

I'm hopefuly that they will eventually fix it, though. It's only a 'preview' on Windows 7... I don't know about Windows 8.
An alternative, of course, would be to add a custom rule for IE10 to drop the animation. I don't like the idea, but maybe I should implement it ASAP. IE users aren't really worth my time. I want IE to die, even if IE10 is rather usable.

(Fixed. Also fixed here for your comfort, even though wedge.org is not using the latest revs.)

Oh and Wikipedia does that on Chrome. Dunno if it's related.

Can this be moved to fixed? It doesn't seem to be broken now...
