Tapatalk (revisit)
« on February 27th, 2013, 05:33 PM »
I've read through the thread where I first found Tapatalk mentioned (and long dead), and I've read any and all threads that have the word "Tapatalk" in it.

I and a lot of my users take advantage of Tapatalk for a number of reasons, and while I understand there's a mobile theme, it can still be kind of painful on poor 3G connections (like here in Dayton, OH) where every little bit helps. Tapatalk seems to do a good job of stripping out nearly all but the actual text needed, reducing bandwidth usage and speeding forum usage.

Has this topic been officially been revisited/considered? Is there any plan to support Tapatalk plug-ins?

If they want to implement it, they can implement it themselves. I'm certainly not expending *any* effort for *them to make money out of my time*.

I'll help them as much as any other plugin developer would receive.

Yup, their model is around them selling the app to users, with website owners not paying anything (unless they want to roll out their own app). So the plugin ultimately is a means for them to make money - so they can do the work.

That's too generous of you... ;)
I know I'll give them zero support. Unless they pay us for it...

Wireless (our mobile skin) is just the beginning. We don't need a dedicated app for anything.

That's the thing, I want to engender a thriving ecosystem - and that does include third party submissions too. I may be a plugin machine but I can't write every single plugin required for Wedge ;)

Well, then get started on documenting the thing....

Says the guy who can't be bothered to document the skeleton system or Wess... ::)

*cough* If you remember... I did start documenting the thing, and the plugin system is actually one of the more copiously documented parts

Or forum posts come to that since that's where the plugin manager was documented :P

The only real advantage a native app has is better integration into the OS, with push notifications et all along with access to the corr APIs which can sometime help in cases such as uploading. Speed and accessibility can also be said as advantages but that's debatable. This is coming from a guy who developed the tapatalk plugin for SMF :P.
The way it's meant to be

I'm sure your family is glad to know that... :P

@Dragooon> I'm pretty sure that web apps can do notifications in Firefox OS... I'll have to look into that further. I added support for it this morning in Wedge, and been tweaking it a bit since then... (Damn emulator doesn't have the 'correct' UA, while Firefox's version own plugin that implements the same desktop emulator has it... >_<)
