Off-topic / Re: Linux

Changing to Linux was one of the best day's work I ever did. Mint, Mate and Xfce, Zorin Lite, Bodhi plus always willing to experiment with other distros - Marvellous.

Farewell product keys, activation codes, constant techno-nagging, having to prove my innocence that what I'm using is a legal copy, what seems hours spending updating, not to mention Microsoft's greedy mates at Symantec, McAfee et al, plus my credit card is now on permanent holiday.

I do occasionally use older versions of Windows for some software eg. Arcsoft VHS to DVD transfer or some hardware eg. Canon scanner or Lexmark multi-purpose machines because those companies flatly refuse not only to build drivers for freesource systems but also refuse to release the source codes so said drivers can be built by a third party.

I find Linux to be overall lighter, faster, considerably more reliable, stable and secure though I also use Clamav just in case plus Very sophisticated control over the system can be exercised via the command line and shell.

I heard the news tonight on BBC Radio 4.  :sob: I wonder who'll replace him.

It reminds me of the craze during the 1980's for Nouvelle Cuisine : you pay high prices for almost nothing on your plate.  >:(

I did go onto a VB demo site to look around the admin section but to me it looked clumsier than phpBB.

Rumour has it the developers of Wedge are secretly also building a time machine so as to re-write the history of the internet.

This post is just an excuse to show appreciation of all the work that's gone on here - and so I can say I've now posted on Wedge. :)

In fact, phpBB's ACP in general confuses me, but that's another matter entirely.[
I once worked on a forum using phpBB2 - I was in therapy for months afterwards. I found the permission settings very cumbersome. Recently, as a stopgap, I used a free version developed by some French guys which was OK but members were forever being asked to enter a CAPTCHA code because the software was always convinced it was under attack by spammers. There was no way of over-riding it.

Metric is easier though I think Imperial will still be around in the UK for some time to come.

The fun starts when people from the UK visit the USA (or vica-versa) and find the UK gallon isn't the same as the American gallon.

Last night, I watched a repeat on BBC3 of The Lodger and enjoyed it every bit as much as the first time around.  :)

Any serious support apart from 'click here' 'click there' 'go to admin> blah blah' is getting less and less over there now as more and more of the serious players are coming over to Wedge.

Long time passing?
Gone over to Wedge every one..."

Hmm, nice subtlety : Wedge is like platimum jewelry as against SMF's (puts money in swear box) so-called gold.  :)
