Importing into Wedge / Re: importer MySQL bug
Nao « on February 4th, 2014, 10:19 AM »
It caught mine anyway ;)

SQL_ seems to have been removed somewhere before the release of v5.0 (since it can be seen in the 5.0 constant list in both spellings), and deprecated on 5.6... I guess.

So I should safely be able to commit the proposed fix. Once I'm done with breakfast, car duty, Himym, Brooklyn 99 and Uncle. In that order. :P

Fixed in the repo. Thanks for the report! I can confirm that it's a MySQL 5.6 change, and that MySQL 5.0 should be fine with this change -- I tracked down the rename to MySQL 4.0!!

The Pub / Re: Notifications
Nao « on February 2nd, 2014, 08:55 PM »
Regular: click the X or click anywhere to open the preview.

PM: visit the inbox. I did this to force notifs to stay visible. Pms require an answer usually. I currently have 16 PMS waiting for an answer lol.

Before stable I'd like to add a 'mark unread' link in regular PMS and a 'mark read' link in pm notifs but I want to find the proper styling for that.

The Pub / Re: Minimum PHP version?
MultiformeIngegno « on February 2nd, 2014, 02:37 AM »
I think users running outdated versions oh php don't care about users security and shouldn't deserve wedge. I voted for 5.4 and I'm running 5.5.8..

The Pub / Re: What I LIKE in Wedge!
radu « on January 22nd, 2014, 11:09 AM »
I just install it on localhost, and tested for 30 minutes, I did not discover all the functions availble but for now I can say that I like:

- the responsive template (finaly could say bye bye to tapatalk)
- the avatar that remains in the upper corner when scrolling a long post
- the posts "being merged" when a user make some consecutive replies
- the integration with AevaMedia and the possibility to add an image directly from the editor
- lightbox effect on images from default
- the like system
- shorthand date display
- when user is posting from android it shows the android icon
- the spoiler
- draft posts
- Merge double posts automatically
- the notification system

These are not new functions in wedge, I sow them a few month ago when registered to this site. I could say that are functions that I do not have on SMF

Development blog / That'll do.
Nao « on January 21st, 2014, 04:08 PM »
And here it is. I wanted to postpone it even more... But you don't deserve it. If anything goes wrong, I'll deserve it. In the meantime, please enjoy this; some of you have been waiting over three years for this moment.

https://github.com/Wedge/wedge

Read the README for instructions.
I will attempt to release a public alpha once I get some feedback confirming that everything's working all right.

https://github.com/Wedge/plugins

This is the official plugin repository. Most of these were written by Pete, John and Shitiz. The current license for them is the Wedge license; eventually, though, my goal is to make it clear which plugins are under more permissive licenses. Perhaps I'll even be able to make them all MIT, or something. If you write a plugin and don't want to share it under the MIT license, you can always push it elsewhere.

https://github.com/Wedge/languages

This one isn't a new repo, I introduced it recently on this blog, but what's new is that all of its files are now governed by the MIT license.

Lastly, if you're planning to make the switch to Wedge from an active SMF forum, please remember this:
  • There is currently no 'proper' importer available. Pandos confirmed to me that the official importer is broken, so I'll look into it ASAP.
  • Said official importer will be pushed to the Wedge/tools repo (or its own repo) when available. I'm planning to have it around by next weekend at the latest.
  • If Thorsten looks into it before I do (I know he loves this kind of thing), then he may fix the importer before I do. See? A programmer's logic is no more complex than yours.
  • It's still an alpha, even three years in. Meaning nothing is set in stone, and if a change I make breaks your forum, you can't complain to me. And if it makes it better, then you can't complain either. That was the whole point, after all.
Now, please allow me for a short break, before I jump into new adventures with you all.

The Pub / Re: What I HATE in Wedge!

There isn't always enough space. But I get your point; at some point I wrote a script that would get stuff out of the menu until it reached the maximum available size, à la phpMyAdmin. But I didn't proceed with it because it was visible at page load time, and I prefer to avoid patrons to see what's going on in the kitchen.

Also, the mini-menus are all loaded from a complex, short JS structure in the HTML, so there's no Ajax involved here.

I don't like the way This is us has to be configured.  Currently it feels like a hack when it could be as simple as editing any post.  I hope this gets improved.
