Off-topic / Gallery Effects
« on October 31st, 2011, 02:02 PM »
Man my brain is fried, what is that pluging that people use for galleries or just viewing images when you click on the image it brings up that neat little popup box with the image inside it.  :^^;: I just cannot think of the name of it now  :hmm:

Off-topic / Adding Value to the project
« on October 19th, 2011, 03:39 PM »
I come here and read the topics and not being a programmer some of them are beyond me. So I actually feel bad that I was invited here in the early stages of this project but have not really been able to add much value to it all  :(

Off-topic / Vimeo
« on September 26th, 2011, 06:20 PM »
Any of you guys had a look at Vimeo for hosting videos. I am starting to think it is better than Youtube lately. The only downer really is on the free version you need to wait so long for your uploads to process but other than that I like it

Off-topic / I am looking for a favour
« on September 17th, 2011, 04:37 PM »
Ok guys I am looking for a favour if possible I would really appreciate any help here. I am running vBulletin on my main forum and would like to add a custom BBC to do the following but have no idea on how to do it. What it should do is the following. When a member goes off topic within a thread he needs to post the following code [highjack] his text [/highjack] This should bring up a quote like box with the word Highjack above it and maybe the box in a light green or something. Here is a link on how it is done in vBulletin but its all Greek to me

Anyone had a look at Google plus. I have started using it and think it is much better than FB especially as you can arrange you friends into different groups and just post to any groups you want.

Other software / Well the deed is done
« on March 11th, 2011, 12:28 PM »
I have just spent the last few weeks working on my new vBulletin forum, well actually my old forum that I have converted. Overall I must say I am very impressed with the software and the way stuff comes together. No more playing search and destroy when you want to uninstall a mod and then have to go and weed out all that lost code. The support is also very good that I have seen so far.

The only downer about the whole setup is they do not really have a gallery to speak of. There are two mods but nothing along the lines of what we have here. So I did some asking about this and it would seem most forum owners are more than happy to pay for this one http://www.photopost.com/why-vbgallery.html so I suppose I will also be moving across to it in the next few month.

Here is my converted forum http://triumphtalk.com The import apps really worked great and I ended up only losing one thread and one attachment   :eheh:

Other software / Moving on
« on February 6th, 2011, 02:21 PM »
Well guys my time with SMF has come to an end, anyway with my main forum. I suppose the smaller forum that come and go will always be some type of open source software on a kind. However next week we will be purchasing VB for my main forum and I will be converting it over the next few week. I think I am just tried of the whole story with SMF and also always having to fight with mods that come and go as SMF versions change

I know some of you feel the VB is junk but looking at many forums that I use that run on it and it does seem to give the members cool features and has a proper support base for the owner or admin.

Off-topic / COD Black Ops
« on November 10th, 2010, 08:23 PM »
  I think I wasted my money on this one that is for sure. Just got it today and only after a few hours of play it turns out to be the same as the last just different maps. They did add in lots of lag so that was one big change they did  :niark:

So I am back to playing the new MOH also not the best but seems a lot better than Black Ops that is for sure

Off-topic / The reality of code for us [Rant]
« on November 10th, 2010, 04:13 AM »
I think at times it may be hard for programmers to understand our frustration with code. Well here is a typical situation that I am experiencing with it. I am busy setting up a new forum and one of the components is to get only certain galleries showing up in a PHP block. I started looking at this 12 days ago and just cannot figure out or find the code to do this. :^^;: I have code to show random galleries but all of them not just certain ones that I require. My project is now at a standstill until I can get around this. I have posted at Noisen, SMF and Portamx and to date nothing.  :hmm:

Off-topic / Joining a forum
« on October 23rd, 2010, 11:24 AM »
Funny this is something I never really thought much about but do it all the time. When joining a new forum what is it that you look for. I have just been looking for a forum and doing a Google search started at the top of the list. Going to the first one listed I found myself looking at these aspects first
1. How does it look straight off. Is it nicely set out, easy theme to be able to use, graphically pleasing.
2. What forum software is it using, do I know it and it;s features.
3 How many members does it have and what is the post count
4. Are the forum areas set out and relevant to what I am seeking

Ok once I have determined that the forum passes the above list I registered, so I registered on the first one. Was registration easy if not I give up. Once registered on this forum I went to the new members intro area to post my newbie post. Started out with subject and then thread content but when I wanted to hit post it came back telling me tag to common try another. It seems this forum auto tags from your subject line. Now how many way can you say hello, well after the 5th attempt it posted. Now I wanted to post in one of the forum areas, same story until the point of where I just gave up and left to find another forum.

Off-topic / avatars
« on October 22nd, 2010, 12:01 PM »
I hate it the way you find all these avatars packs on the mod site at SMF. I wish they would move them into another area. You end up having to go through pages of these things just to view mods
