Archived fixes / Warn on new replies made while posting not working
« on November 8th, 2012, 12:03 AM »
When I enable the "Warn on new replies made while posting." in my profile, when I go to reply to a topic while another user posted before me, I don't get the warning notice. This doesn't work if I attempt to preview it either (was curious).
Archived fixes / open_basedir and Load Balancing Page Errors
« on November 7th, 2012, 10:31 PM »
Trying to view the page shows a blank page.

I investigated and found the cause on line 471 in ManageServer.php,
Code: [Select]
$settings['load_average'] = @file_get_contents('/proc/loadavg');

When I remove the supression operator, I get the following errors,
Warning: file_get_contents() [function.file-get-contents]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/proc/loadavg) is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/...:usr/lib/php:/usr/php4/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/usr/local/php4/lib/php:/tmp) in /.../wedge/Sources/ManageServer.php on line 471

Warning: file_get_contents(/proc/loadavg) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: Operation not permitted in /.../wedge/Sources/ManageServer.php on line 471
Bug reports / Maintenance Task Hangs
« on November 7th, 2012, 12:41 AM »
When I try to run the "Check all files against current versions" task, the page is blank and nothing happens. No errors anywhere.

I went through the source code and I believe it is the exec() function call in the media_handler::testImageMagick() method which is hanging PHP. I don't have ImageMagick installed on my system, so I'm assuming that's why it hangs.

This is the code in Subs-Admin.php which allows this to happen due to some logic error,
Code: [Select]
// ImageMagick?
if (in_array('imagick', $checkFor))
$data = array();
if (media_handler::testIMagick())
$data['imagick'] = true;
$imagick = new Imagick;
$data['imagick_ver'] = $imagick->getVersion();
$imv = $data['imagick_ver']['versionString'];
if (media_handler::testMW())
$data['mw'] = true;
$data['mw_ver'] = MagickGetVersion();
$imv = $data['mw_ver'][0];
if ($im_ver = media_handler::testImageMagick())
$imv = $im_ver;
if (isset($imv))
$versions['imagick'] = array(
'title' => $txt['support_imagemagick'],
'version' => $tick . ' (' . $imv . ')</em><br>
  ' . $txt['support_imagick'] . ': <em>' . (isset($data['imagick']) ? $tick . ' ' . $txt['support_available'] : $untick . ' ' . $txt['support_not_available']) . '</em><br>
  ' . $txt['support_MW'] . ': <em>' . (isset($data['mw']) ? $tick . ' ' . $txt['support_available'] : $untick . ' ' . $txt['support_not_available']), // don't end the /em tag! The template already does that...
$versions['imagick'] = array('title' => $txt['support_imagemagick'], 'version' => $untick . ' ' . $txt['support_not_available']);

If the check for ImageMagick fails in the first if block, why would it later "test" ImageMagick regardless?

After adjusting the code, the page loads fine.

On the main page of this forum, when I go to the Thoughts section and press the "All" link to view all the thoughts, I return to the main index again except with the following error embedded where the same block was:

Archived fixes / Minor Quick Edit Bug
« on November 4th, 2012, 09:16 PM »
It seems when I try to quick edit a post with double quotes (") in it, the Javascript has an issue with the quote(s) and instead replaces the entire title textbox with a slash (\). Possible escape issue? Every other special character on my keyboard works fine.

I made a test topic for this here,
Just click on the quick edit icon and look at the title's textbox.

Archived fixes / open_basedir and Cache Errors
« on November 4th, 2012, 07:15 PM »
Looks like there is another open_basedir issue here (this setting is quite a pain in the arse)...

I noticed I had 4 errors in the error log after installing Wedge:
2: Invalid argument supplied for foreach()
File: /home/projecte/public_html/dexterslab/wedge/Sources/Subs-Cache.php
Line: 766

2: Invalid argument supplied for foreach()
File: /home/projecte/public_html/dexterslab/wedge/Sources/Subs-Cache.php
Line: 553
Line 766,
Code: [Select]
foreach (glob($jsdir . '/' . $id. '*' . $ext) as $del)
Line 553,
Code: [Select]
foreach (glob($final_folder . '/' . ($id ? $id . '-*' : '[0-9]*') . $ext) as $del)

The open_basedir setting on my host does have a value according to phpinfo(). Resetting the file cache reproduced these errors, so it seems iterating through the cached CSS and JS files are a problem.

After looking at this,

It seems glob() is returning boolean false rather than an empty array. Obvious fix: check beforehand whether it's false and if so make it an empty array.

The Pub / Wedge Banners?

I wan't to advertise Wedge around in my signature on a variety of forums I visit. Do you guys have any official banners or images I can use?
Bug reports / IE Text Highlighting issue in Posts
« on November 4th, 2012, 12:09 AM »

I am using Internet Explorer 9, and whenever I try to highlight the text within a post, the screen automatically adjusts its position to the top of the post's block meaning the specific portion of text I wanted to highlight actually doesn't highlight properly. It isn't very noticeable in small posts but in a topic such as this one which I wanted to copy the application steps, the browser kept bringing me to the top of the post. This made it very difficult to highlight text in the post.

Works fine on Chrome v22 and Firefox 16. Applies to all themes.
The Pub / About SMF and this project
« on November 3rd, 2012, 01:26 AM »
I'm glad to see this project still going strong. The concept is very good because it seems to encapsulate both SMF's simplicity and speed from the core but now this project is taking advantage of the modern web - something SMF still hasn't surprisingly (to me) done yet. Obviously it's falling out of competition everyday the same bland features still stay in place... The move with providing jQuery support is a bit late in my opinion as I'm not sure what the real need for all that legacy code is still needed for. So, kudos - I believe this is going to be very successful and bring in some new users to what could have been SMF's userbase (if they did some things right).

As for SMF itself, I am still surprised to see some volatility between the team and some of the members here that has taken place especially within SMF. The politics have gone on too long and to me it's just childish now.

I also have my opinions on the SMF team, but nonetheless, you have my support, and I hope I can start making plugins when it's ready or contribute in any way possible to help push this forward.
