Had the same problem over here; hard refreshing the page fixed the problem.

Love the idea! I have to wonder, though, why tackle this with JavaScript at all? It seems like something that can easily be handled in the topic template instead — which also makes solving the issues you list much easier.

Apparently the SM community site has been compromised...

Wow, @Arantor! I am pleasantly surprised that you remembered the idea – and actually made it, too. :)

Agreed on the categories bit. A friend of mine has this RPG forum where boards are archived on a frequent basis (story/game based) and as a result he has about 800+ boards now, having run the site since 2006, I'm sure.

Sidenote: the above was actually one of the main reasons for the inclusion of the max-height attribute on the board list by category in the admin centre. Not the ideal solution, but 2.0 RC stage was too late to change the interface drastically, as you can probably imagine.

Features / Re: Permissions UI, latest experiment
« on May 15th, 2013, 12:31 AM »
Well, I really like the clean looks of it. Personally, I rather liked SMF 1.0's three-way permission system (that is, deny, allow, disallow) in that it was quite intuitive to a programmer. That is, for each permission there was a value on screen. If course, taking 'disallow' out of the picture made the interface more intuitive to every user by just using a checkbox instead (since its value is now just binary).

The only drawback I see here is this: intuitively, looking at the interface, I'd expect to be able to tick both the allow and deny boxes. While that scenario may be prevented via JavaScript or so, to me, it is important that I can understand an interface at first glance. Changing expected widget behaviour does not help in that respect.

I personally tend to think the binary way (that is, one checkbox per permission) is the best approach for all users, making the three-way radio button an advanced option. I realise this is probably a rather conservative view, however...

Hmm, I actually rather enjoyed this week's episode, but the internet appears to be split on it. The guys over at SFX even go as far as to say 'what comes around, goes around' when it concerns the Cybermen: they appear to have become more like the Borg in that they now appear to be operated through a central entity instead of just a hive mind.

Dunno, I just tried to not get too annoyed by the children present in the episode and managed to just enjoy the episode. Sure, it's not as good as The Doctor's Wife, but better than many of this series' episodes by far (which, unfortunately, doesn't say much).

The SFX guys are really into next week's episode though, and considering their reviews of this season so far, that's something.

Also, the Eleventh Doctor encountered it in last year's Christmas special. No surprise the Great Intelligence was played by Richard E. Grant again, in that respect.

The Zygons are back for the 50th anniversary special.

This should be exciting, but I feel ... spoiled.

While we're at it ... make viewing PMs by conversation the default, too — or even the only mode. It's how (new) users would expect it to work, I think.

I'm using Firefox 18 on OS X and it looks fine to me...? The base64 embedding is intentional, afaik.
